Politburo Proposes Commission to Study Whether Homeowners Are Being Taxed Into the Street

HD.6232, filed by Commissar Bud L. Williams of the 11th Hampden District, would establish a special commission to study property tax relief and local aid reform — which is to say, the People’s Legislature has identified a crisis, and its proposed remedy is a committee.

The commission would examine whether the Commonwealth Soviet’s system of taxing residential property and distributing state aid to municipalities is working as intended. It is not working as intended. This has been known for some time. The commission will study it.

Williams represents Springfield, where median household incomes and surging assessments have made property taxes an acute burden on working families — precisely the constituency for whom a study commission offers the least immediate comfort. The bill names no membership, no mandate, no deadline, and no funding. It is, in the technical sense, a decree to form a subcommittee of the Central Committee to determine whether decrees are necessary.

Decree Rating: ☭☭ — The people needed bread; the Politburo formed a commission to study grain.
